Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about us! We have always wanted to grow our family through the journey of adoption. This child is very much wanted, and we have traveled a long road and have made great efforts to bring a baby into our family. We were surprised when we found out Alyssa was pregnant in 2018, which brought us our son, Oliver! After multiple brain surgeries and radiation treatment, we are no longer able to have biological children. We now look forward to growing our family through the gift of adoption.

Our Story

We actually met on a blind date! Our sisters were able to connect us. They thought we would be a good match and it turns out they were right! We quickly connected with our love of music and it didn't take long to realize we held the same faith and values. Dates were spent enjoying everyday things together: getting take-out, watching movies, baking, and occasionally feeling brave enough to tackle a 1,000 piece puzzle together. We even went through a season where we trained for a half marathon together and spent most of our Saturdays doing long rungs together at the park. About four months after we started dating, Alyssa experienced a recurrence of her chronic illness and had to share the news with Ian. Essentially, Alyssa gave Ian and "out," informing Ian that this was something that would be a part of her life and that if they were to move forward as a couple, it would ultimately impact Ian as well. Ian was not afraid! He was with Alyssa every step of the way, from every doctor's visit and lab appointment, until the day of surgery. Although we said "I love you," at different times, we believe it was that experience that really brought us together.

¡Nos conocimos en una cita a ciegas! Fueron nuestras hermanas quienes nos presentaron, creyendo que haríamos una buena pareja… ¡y tenían razón! Rápidamente conectamos por nuestro amor a la música y no pasó mucho tiempo para darnos cuenta de que compartíamos la misma fe y valores. Nuestras citas se enfocaban en disfrutar de las cosas cotidianas: pedir comida para llevar, ver películas, hornear juntos y, a veces, atrevernos con un rompecabezas de 1,000 piezas. Incluso pasamos una etapa en la que entrenábamos juntos para una media maratón y pasábamos la mayoría de los sábados corriendo en el parque. Unos cuatro meses después de comenzar a salir, Alyssa sufrió una recaída de su enfermedad crónica y tuvo que contarle a Ian. Básicamente, Alyssa le dio a Ian una “salida”, explicándole que esta condición sería parte de su vida y que, si continuaban como pareja, también lo afectaría a él. ¡Pero Ian no tuvo miedo! Estuvo con Alyssa en cada paso del camino, en cada cita médica y análisis, hasta el día de la cirugía. Aunque dijimos “te amo” en momentos distintos, creemos que fue esa experiencia la que realmente nos unió.
Our Adventures

Living in a popular tourist town, there is always something fun for us to do! We have a good community of friends in the area and most weekends we will find things to do together as a family or find something to do with friends. We like to visit the local park, go out for ice cream, and take walks throughout our neighborhood. Our community park has a summer concert series that we will attend; music is a BIG part of our family. We like to work on puzzles together, play games, listen to music, and watch movies. One of our favorite activities is sharing our "favorite" and "hardest" part of the day with one another. It is something we found we can do quickly around the dinner table and is a fun way to connect at the end of the day.

Vivimos en una ciudad turística muy popular, ¡así que siempre hay algo divertido para hacer! Tenemos una buena comunidad de amigos en la zona y la mayoría de los fines de semana buscamos actividades para disfrutar en familia o con amigos. Nos encanta visitar el parque local, salir por un helado y caminar por el vecindario. El parque de nuestra comunidad tiene una serie de conciertos en verano a los que solemos asistir; la música es una parte MUY importante de nuestra familia. Disfrutamos hacer rompecabezas, jugar, escuchar música y ver películas juntos. Una de nuestras actividades favoritas es compartir cuál fue la “mejor” y la “más difícil” parte del día. Es algo que hacemos rápidamente durante la cena y nos ayuda a conectarnos al final del día.

My wife is the kindest and most caring person I have ever met. Her compassion and empathy knows no bounds. The best way to describe it is to simply say that... she cares. She just genuinely cares about how people are doing and is a master of encouragement. I tend to be so methodical or "black and white" in my thinking that her compassion and emotional intelligence serve as a great balance to me. Alyssa is a wonderful mother and has a tremendous amount of patience. She has so much love to give and expresses it through actions, both practically and emotionally. The action of caring for the child, such as feedings, changing diapers, even rocking them back to sleep at 2:00am fills her with joy and oozes love. The way in which she speaks to (and of) Oliver, and already of our future child, sets them up for emotional growth and intellectual excellence.

Mi esposa es la persona más amable y compasiva que he conocido. Su empatía no tiene límites. La mejor forma de describirla es simplemente decir… que le importa. De verdad se interesa por cómo están los demás y es una maestra en dar ánimos. Yo tiendo a pensar de manera lógica o “en blanco y negro”, así que su inteligencia emocional y ternura son el equilibrio perfecto para mí. Alyssa es una madre maravillosa y tiene una paciencia inmensa. Tiene muchísimo amor para dar y lo expresa tanto de manera práctica como emocional. Acciones como alimentar al bebé, cambiar pañales o arrullarlo a las 2:00 a.m. la llenan de alegría y amor. La forma en que le habla a Oliver —y ya incluso a nuestro futuro hijo— los prepara para crecer emocionalmente y destacar intelectualmente.

My husband is everything that I'm not, and I love and treasure him for that! Ian is logical and thinks things through. He does not do anything impulsively and always has our family's best interest at heart. Although Ian is an introvert and not always eager to be social, he makes and effort because he knows it is important for our family. He is self-disciplined and sticks to healthy habits of eating well and exercising. Ian's love language is "acts of service;" he is always checking in with our family to see if there is anything he can be do to serve us better. He is sensitive to my needs and how I am feeling and he is always making me laugh! Ian is already a wonderful and loving father. Our pregnancy with Oliver was a surprise but Ian adapted quickly to the role of fatherhood. Ian is constantly reminding Oliver that he is loved, even when Oliver makes bad choices or has to be disciplined. Ian is truly my partner in life. We work together and I wouldn't want to do life with anyone else!

¡Mi esposo es todo lo que yo no soy, y por eso lo amo y valoro tanto! Ian es lógico y reflexivo. No actúa por impulso y siempre piensa en lo que es mejor para nuestra familia. Aunque es introvertido y no siempre tiene ganas de socializar, hace el esfuerzo porque sabe que es importante para nosotros. Es disciplinado y mantiene hábitos saludables de alimentación y ejercicio. Su lenguaje de amor son los “actos de servicio”; siempre está pendiente de cómo puede ayudarnos mejor. Es muy atento a cómo me siento y siempre logra hacerme reír. Ian ya es un padre maravilloso y amoroso. Nuestro embarazo con Oliver fue inesperado, pero Ian se adaptó rápidamente al rol de papá. Siempre le recuerda a Oliver cuánto lo ama, incluso cuando Oliver toma malas decisiones o necesita corrección. Ian es realmente mi compañero de vida. Trabajamos en equipo y no podría imaginarme la vida con otra persona.

Oliver is a bubbly, energetic six year old with a big heart - he feels and loves BIG! He is friendly and outgoing and loves to make friends. He is extremely intelligent and is always asking questions so that he can learn more. He still thinks Mom & Dad are cool, so we are always spending time together. He hates being alone and loves anything to do with water! Oliver is very much looking forward to having a sibling through adoption. We often pray for the baby and birth mom before bed time. He understands the concept of adoption as well as a six year old can, and like most six year olds, is just having a hard time waiting! (Let's be honest - adults have a hard time waiting too!) We look forward to seeing Oliver become a big brother! He has so much love to give and we are confident he will love whoever joins our family. We hope Oliver and the baby will be lifelong friends.

Oliver es un niño alegre y enérgico de seis años con un gran corazón: ¡siente y ama con intensidad! Es muy amigable y extrovertido, le encanta hacer nuevos amigos. Es sumamente inteligente y siempre está haciendo preguntas para aprender más. Todavía piensa que mamá y papá son “cool”, así que pasamos mucho tiempo juntos. No le gusta estar solo y ama todo lo relacionado con el agua. Oliver está muy emocionado de tener un hermanito o hermanita por adopción. A menudo rezamos por el bebé y por la mamá biológica antes de dormir. Entiende el concepto de la adopción lo mejor que puede para su edad, y como muchos niños de seis años… ¡le cuesta mucho esperar! (¡Seamos honestos, a los adultos también!) Tenemos muchas ganas de ver a Oliver convertirse en hermano mayor. Our Home

We live at the end of a row house in a quiet, friendly neighborhood. We have a cozy three-bedroom, one and a half bath home with a finished basement. Our backyard has a great space to play with a shed to store bikes, scooters, and sidewalk chalk. Our house is extremely kid-friendly and has many activities for us to do. We are always getting creative and building memories together in our home. We live in a rural suburb of a larger city in Pennsylvania, in a historic tourist town with a lot of beautiful homes nearby. Sometimes it feels like we are living in a postcard! We live close to the local community park, so we can usually walk to a majority of community events.

Vivimos al final de una fila de casas en un vecindario tranquilo y amigable. Nuestra casa es acogedora, de tres habitaciones y un baño y medio, con un sótano terminado. El patio trasero tiene un buen espacio para jugar y un cobertizo donde guardamos bicicletas, patinetas y tizas de colores. Nuestra casa está totalmente adaptada para niños y tiene muchas actividades para disfrutar. Siempre buscamos maneras creativas de construir recuerdos en nuestro hogar. Vivimos en un suburbio rural cerca de una ciudad grande en Pensilvania, en una ciudad histórica y turística con muchas casas hermosas. ¡A veces sentimos que vivimos dentro de una postal! Estamos muy cerca del parque comunitario, así que podemos caminar a muchos de los eventos locales.
How We Celebrate

Life is full of hills and valleys - it is always important to find little pockets or joy and ways to celebrate life together! We celebrate through experiences together. We enjoy taking trips in the summer to Ohio to visit family. Ian grew up on a farm in the middle of nowhere, so the family farm is a perfect place for kids to run around and getting dirty. We enjoy taking annual trips to Ocean City, New Jersey. We live close to a local theme park, so we have started the tradition of going every Labor Day weekend. Traveling with a child isn't always easy, but these experiences we've had together have been well worth it.

La vida está llena de altibajos, así que siempre buscamos pequeños momentos de alegría y formas de celebrar juntos. Celebramos a través de experiencias. En verano nos gusta viajar a Ohio para visitar a la familia. Ian creció en una granja en medio de la nada, así que ese lugar es perfecto para que los niños corran, jueguen y se ensucien. También tomamos vacaciones anuales a Ocean City, Nueva Jersey. Vivimos cerca de un parque temático local y hemos empezado una tradición de ir cada fin de semana del Día del Trabajo (Labor Day). Viajar con niños no siempre es fácil, ¡pero todas estas experiencias han valido la pena!
